Life
for Dorrie Potter is never going to be easy. Even her entrance
to the world is a struggle – born in the last days of the Blitz,
shortly after a bomb has destroyed the Potter family home and
trapped her mother in the rubble.
Her
parents’ marriage is not a happy one. Blinded by his good looks
and dashing sailor’s uniform, Flo had married Arthur Potter at
the start of the war. Now she can only wish for what might have
been had she taken a chance on her unreliable childhood
sweetheart Frank.
Arthur is a good man, even though he is sometimes insensitive
where his wife and family are concerned. Returning home from
the war, there is an immediate bond between himself and his
