A Lazy Eye

Life for Dorrie Potter is never going to be easy.  Even her entrance to the world is a struggle – born in the last days of the Blitz, shortly after a bomb has destroyed the Potter family home and trapped her mother in the rubble.

Her parents’ marriage is not a happy one.  Blinded by his good looks and dashing sailor’s uniform, Flo had married Arthur Potter at the start of the war.  Now she can only wish for what might have been had she taken a chance on her unreliable childhood sweetheart Frank.

Arthur is a good man, even though he is sometimes insensitive where his wife and family are concerned.  Returning home from the war, there is an immediate bond between himself and his little girl. 

But Dorrie’s lazy eye and flights of fancy mark her out as different from other children, and Arthur grows more determined to ensure that she fits in.  For Dorrie’s won sake she must be brought into line – and kept away from her eccentric grandmother, Nora.

But Nora Potter knows that what marks Dorrie out as different isn’t her lazy eye, but what it enables her to see…
